Long Drive Back Home From Love Looking in the rear view mirror At the past fading from view The road ahead is getting clearer There isn’t any sign of you And why does no one ever tell us When goodbye is not enough And though I know I’ll make it on my own It’s a long drive back home from love With every mile the feeling’s stronger How did I cover so much ground? I know it can’t be too much longer Until I’m somewhere safe and sound And why does no one ever tell us When the sky is dark above Steering only by the starlight on It’s a long drive back home from love And I got lost out there in wonderland Without a map a compass or a plan But I’ve been travelling the best I can alone And my heart is still my own But it’s a long drive back home from love I came across a new horizon Up spoke a voice from deep inside You’re going in the right direction So wind the window down and drive And why does no one ever tell us When we leave our dream for dust To blaze a trail into the great unknown It’s a long drive back home from love

Carnforth Station A cold misty morning beside Carnforth Station There's a graveyard of trains Carriages carrying high expectations Left out to rot in the rain There's things I don't know but I'm willing to wager We lost somewhere way down the track Small town connections and time for reflection Is not all we can never get back So if that train is leaving the platform today Sweet heartache is coming our way Well I've never been down to Carnforth Station And I can't step back in time The whistle was blowing but I was afraid then And so I stepped back from the line There's things I don't know but I'm willing to wager I lost somewhere way down the track And here in this window I see my reflection But it's somebody else looking back So if that train is leaving the platform today Sweet heartache is coming our way Here's to the old ways and ill-fated lovers Daydreams, encounters, and tears The hours together will echo forever ‘Cos that's when the fog disappeared So if that train is leaving the platform today Sweet heartache is coming our way A cold misty morning beside Carnforth Station There's a graveyard of trainsfrom 'Carnforth Station' released 15th September 2014

I've Forgotten Everything It's in the flame before my eyes It's in the haze that morning brings Back in the real world time just flies And I've forgotten everything It's in the dream before I wake It's in the story that pulls me in Back in the real world it's a mistake And I've forgotten everything It's in my bones it's in my soul It's in the heart that beats within Back in the real world we just grow old And I've forgotten everything It's in the midnight glass of wine It's in the moonlight creeping in Back in the real world nothing shines And I've forgotten everything It's in the girl that fell in love It's in the raindrops on my skin Back in the real world it's not enough And I've forgotten everything It's in my bones… When I die, oh when I die When they ask me where I've been I'll say the real world but God knows why And I've forgotten everything It's in my bones…

Black Fly 04:23
Black Fly Simply take the road ahead That's what the old man said Try not to fret or care And you'll get there Two paths in the wood and I Took the one less travelled by And then I stood and wondered why The sky was falling Black fly in my wine I'll learn to pay no mind Some things just take their time Blackbird in my dreams You sing the saddest things Little birds will find their wings By morning Signs and wonders guide the way That's what the wise ones say As I stumble through another day In the darkness Where are the roses now? The buds remain upon the bough And somewhere far above the clouds The sun's still shining Black fly in my wine.. At first the mountain was too steep Then the river ran too deep Then I thought I could not go One step further When the world was full of doubt The tide went in and the tide went out And ‘fear be banished’ was the shout From every corner Black fly in my wine...

The Net 06:01
The Net I stood upon the open deck and gazed across the water To a place where every traveller will never quite forget And I heard a mermaid singing, or a man with cabin fever ‘Be careful what you wish for, you might find it yet’ As the sky began to darken well we settled down to listen To the stories of the fishermen who braved the northern sea And you will never taste a finer catch or come across a better match Than the women of the island upon a stranger’s knee We pulled into the harbour to a sea of friendly faces And they took us by the hand to where the whisky never dries And the night was spent in laughter and I started to remember The moment that the light returned across the endless skies Oh the joy and madness of a reckless early morning And I still recall the sunlight streaming through the open door And how we danced… Like a movie in slow motion in an ocean full of colours, still The seconds in between will last a lifetime in my mind Of the night the heavens opened to the beauty all around us When I saw the light return into my true loves eyes How they did shine… Following my true love’s eyes To bask in their reflection But the eyes they came to rest on were not mine But how we danced… I stood upon the open deck and gazed across the water To a place where every traveller will never quite forget And they say each one that comes back will be forever altered And there's always one or two slip through the net

One More Day 03:34
One More Day We got the maps out We drove for miles now Still be miles and miles and miles to go Will we belong there? Sometimes anywhere Can start to feel like home before you know Here tonight, gone tomorrow Wish I could take you all the way back to my home town We’d shrink the world down and pull the moon around For one more day I trace the coastline And all that’s been mine And hope I’ve got enough to make the show How did it get here All this beauty? I ask but I don’t really want to know Here tonight, gone tomorrow Wish I could take you all the way back to my home town We’d shrink the world down and pull the moon around For one more day

Torch 03:17
Torch No fire or danger, no storm in the sky No tears or anger, no word of a lie Just an ordinary day doing things I had to do When I put down the torch I was carrying for you No hearts got broken and nothing was said It just burned out a hole in the middle of my head And that night I slept sweetly and sound in my bed When I put down the torch I was carrying for you Oh I loved you so truly, I loved you for good But carrying that torch was like carrying dead wood So I laid it gently as quiet as I could When I put down the torch I was carrying for you No fire or danger, no storm in the sky No tears or anger, no word of a lie Just an ordinary day doing things I had to do When I put down the torch I was carrying for you So that's how it happened, nothing tragic or new I just put down the torch I was carrying for you Just an ordinary day doing things I had to do And when the flame was dying I think that I blew

Angel in Disguise Whatever happened to the teacher from our school? She said I play guitar much better than I play the fool And what of Mr Peacock? we all thought he was a guru ‘Give it all you've got and let the music play through you’ And what about the lady who was waiting at the station? She said to me that maybe I would reach my destination The only thing, she said, is that you must know where you're going And as she turned around I thought, there is no way of knowing You're my angel in disguise Fifteen minutes, fifteen years, both can change your life And no one gets from A to B the way the old crow flies And what about that snowy day we're walking through the graveyard? I never thought that trying not to fall could be so very hard But I'd already fallen, and that was borrowed time I never knew that I would lose what never could be mine And what about the little girl who crossed me on the towpath? She told me not to cry and then she turned into a photograph She looked a little bit like me, a ghost from yesterday I'm sure she came to tell me that everything was gonna be ok Hey You're my angel in disguise Fifteen minutes, fifteen years, both can change your life But no one gets to heaven on wishes or on lies You're my angel in disguise Some things you don't understand you simply recognise But no one gets from A to B the way the old crow flies Sitting all alone one night just dreaming by the fireside Quietly getting older, when suddenly I realise My world’s a better place today, we give what we can give And nobody can take away what they left me with

Apples 05:51
Apples Apples falling on the grass Red brick houses, things that last Feed the birds and sweep the path Another day's begun Picking fruit and shelling peas Making endless cups of tea Keeping track of history As the day moves on Piles of papers, odds ’n’ ends Things to grow and make and mend Mother, sister, granny, friend Loved by everyone Snow on Sunday, shoes for best Clocks and books and winter vests Better get yourself undressed Now the evening’s come Light the candle, climb the stairs A hundred brushes through your hair And don't forget to say a prayer Now the day is done Count your blessings don't be sad God bless Mum and God bless Dad And relatives I never knew I had God bless everyone God bless everyone

Only the River The first time I swam I couldn’t believe it had taken me seventeen years Watching the boats at the end of the garden from Bathampton Mill to the weir They say people drown, but I say people die of all kinds of things without a name Like fear of the future, and life rushing by, and doing the same things again and again Swim with me, sing to me, sail on the wind with me Take all the time that you need Joy is a setting sun but it’s where we belong, so don’t try to steal it from me It’s only the river but somewhere it reaches the sea The last time I drowned it was in your eyes, I must’ve let go of the rope Both of us foolish and both of us wise cos there’s nothing more precious than hope And losing my footing I bathed in the beauty of a moment so rare Like all the painters and poets before me making a living on faith and thin air Swim with me, sing to me, sail on the wind with me Take all the time that you need Joy is a setting sun but it’s where we belong, so don’t try to steal it from me It’s only the river but somewhere it reaches the sea It’s only the river…

For You 03:59
For You “Don’t take that road” you said “There are storm clouds up ahead” And though I knew that you were right I still drove on through the night And looking back it’s clear to see You were never meant for me Guess you were right about that too Well this one’s for you The one who never said a word Still I heard everything The one who never kissed my lips That’s the irony of this How you smiled at me that day With all the truth we couldn’t say And every lie I saw right through This one’s for you It played itself out in the end The way it does when you pretend It sort of died from lack of air And then you act like you don’t care But deep inside I know you do Though I could be wrong about that too I bet I’m right for once Instead of you The one who never said a word Still I heard everything The one who never kissed my lips Traced them with your fingertips In my dreams at night you did So before my heart goes somewhere new Just like you said that it would do Then you’ll be right about that too This one’s for you
