January’s Here She fills a coffee cup and puts away the cards Happy new year, January’s hard The wind is blowing bows and baubles down the street He files a tax return, tries to get some sleep He says it’s more than I can do to make ends meet Last night together full of whisky, full of song To chase away the past before the morning comes along Half-empty glasses raise a mighty cheer This could be the year… January’s here Dark and dreary dull down all her shiny dreams Good intentions tearing at the seams He had a plan but now the night’s already come Breathe in, breathe out One day we’ll see the sun It fades so fast when good intentions come undone Last night together full of whisky, full of song To chase away the past before the morning comes along Half empty glasses raise a mighty cheer This could be the year… This could be the year… January’s here © Crook/Farmer 2016

February 03:45
February Daffodils in February, beautiful as sunlight on a cloudy day Spring is round the corner but it’s been so long it feels a million miles away I tried so hard to hold on to those summer days of endless blue but now I only feel the cold and grey Daffodils in February, spring is round the corner so they say Roses come in February, lucky you if you get any, and you should But love is more than cards and words and I would bathe the whole world in it if I could It floats like driftwood in my mind, I know you’re not the hurting kind and nothing turned out like we thought it would Roses come in February, I gave you all there love I could The rain that falls in February, falls so hard on everybody here below Like the tears we’re holding back from all the dreams we gather just to let them go I caught a glimpse of morning sun but I could sleep ’til April comes and rubs the weight of winter from my eyes The rain that falls in February falls like it’s the last rain in the sky In the sky the moon in full tonight the moon it shines so bright the moon in full tonight across the sea the moon in full tonight the moon it shines so bright Will it ever shine like that on me? Oh February © Jennifer Crook 2016

The March Hare Clock ticks in the hallway, it’s a new day, it’s a new day Sun shines on the wind chimes in the alleyway Got a big yellow teacup, better fill it up, better fill it up You never know when you might a little luck What’s the hour? What’s the season? Just give me something to believe in So I say to the March Hare, “can you play fair? can you play fair? It’s a long way from nowhere to nowhere” Then he sang as he ran on, “even nowhere, to someone, is somewhere Let me know when you get there” Nice day for a small stroll, took a big trip down a rabbit hole The last laugh's in the looking glass of your own soul Too bad for my best dress, it’s a fine mess, it’s a fine mess No sign back to some kind of happiness What’s the rhyme whats the reason? Just give me something to believe in So I say to the March Hare, “can you play fair? can you play fair? It’s a long way from nowhere to nowhere” Then he sang as he ran on, “even nowhere, to someone, is somewhere Let me know when you get there” Pack of cards on the table, pick a good hand if you’re able It’s the way that you play, it’s a farce or a fable Go back for a fools game, never knowing that the rules change Think twice when you roll the dice in her heart's name In the midnight poker are you the King or the Joker? So I say to the March Hare, “can you play fair? can you play fair? It’s a long way from nowhere to nowhere” Then he sang as he ran on, “even nowhere, to someone, is somewhere Let me know when you get there” you can stay, you can leave, take a bow, keep a few tricks up your sleeve, anyhow it’s the right time, or the wrong time but it’s time now © Jennifer Crook 2016

April Is My Friend April is my friend, she says it’s time to clean the windows And if I go outside then I will know which way the wind blows And I will see more clearly all the beauty that surrounds me Let love and grace draw near me, life can still astound me Oh April is a pretty sight, she blossoms in the morning She welcomes strangers with delight, she doesn’t need fair warning She weathers sun and snow and rain Goes out to sow her seeds again The scent of summer just around the bend April is my friend April is my friend, she talks of Paris and of lovers And things that I’ve got stashed away in boxes and in cupboards A change round here would do you good, make you feel much better She promises to help me, if only I would let her Oh April is a pretty sight, she blossoms in the morning She welcomes strangers with delight, she doesn’t need fair warning She weathers sun and snow and rain Goes out to sow her seeds again The scent of summer just around the bend April is the smell of freshly painted walls The hyacinth here in the hall The precious things we took the time to mend April is my friend And if it showers I’ll be fine Give or take a day or two I know the sun will shine April is my friend, she sits upon the windowsill She’s asking me so beautifully, that in the end I say April I will © Jennifer Crook 2016

May Madness 03:10
May Madness In the dead of the night when you wore your disguise All I saw was the light shining out of your eyes As we danced round and round making patterns on the pole I think I got my colours tangled up with your soul Don’t go, it’s an awful mess I think I’ve got a case of May madness Who it was, I don’t know, but someone lit a fire As it burned in the night I felt your desire From the heat of the flame to the deep, dark woods Nobody puts the stars around the moon the way you could Don’t go, don’t leave like this There’s nothing here to fear it’s only May madness The goddess tree is growing strong So kiss me now we don’t have long And mortal life goes on and on There’s a girl over there running naked in the rain She’s got flowers in her hair and Bluebell is her name There’s a boy on a bridge and a river rushing by And a stag on the side of the road to Skye The goddess tree is growing strong So kiss me now we don’t have long And mortal life goes on and on In the dead of the night when you wore your disguise All I saw was the light shining out of your eyes As we danced round and round making patterns on the pole I think I got my colours tangled up with your soul © Jennifer Crook 2016

Venus in June I was looking at an empty sky when out of the blue She came gently floating by and brought me to you More than a hundred years since the first time that she appeared to dance with the moon Venus in June There was nothing for the sun to do but light up the day And hope that his dream came true and she looked his way He’s shine for a thousand years for the first star when she appeared to dance with the moon Venus in June Out there in the darkest night I caught a glimpse of heaven in your eyes And after all that tiny ball became the brightest star up in the sky Once in a lifetime come moments like this From out of eternity, whispers of bliss Riding the heavens from here to forever, she’s calling the tune Venus in June © Jennifer Crook 2016

The Last Day in July (The Kite Song) I heard it on the radio and knew that soon I had to go and fly a kite Looking at the open sky, do I have the wings to fly? well, I just might Gonna get so high before the last day in July Gonna watch it fly before the last day in July Pulling hard upon the string hoping I can catch the wind before it dies I never really understood that holding on can be so good if you just try Gonna get so high before the last day in July Gonna watch it fly before the last day in July Twirling round or whizzing by like a jet plane in the sky above us all I let my concentration slip and sure enough it takes a dip and starts to fall - red wings and all I’m running to the other side to find the giant bird that died upon the sand - where all dreams land But if I go and pick it up and try again with any luck, oh We’re gonna get so high before the last day in July Were gonna watch it fly before the last day in July Oh it’s gonna fly Just let it fly, fly, fly, fly, fly… © Jennifer Crook

August Moon 04:16
August Moon She swam like a mermaid through dark blue and green caves Climbed up the rocks, curled her toes in the sand ’Til all was forgotten, the trials of a woman And the things that had kept her feet tied to the land He spoke like a man who had plenty of treasure That he had to dig deep down to the bottom to find But when he took the boat out, adrift on the water It was her face kept on coming to mind And the August moon said ‘you fell under my spell Like the light on the waves fell in the beginning of time’ Oh the August moon on a hot summer evening When I fell under your spell Did you fall under mine? After the sun set they were cooking by starlight They were strumming guitars and oh laughing so hard There was nothing between them but fire and moonlight The truth in his eyes and a song in her heart And the August moon said ‘you fell under my spell Like the light on the waves fell in the beginning of time’ Oh the August moon on a hot summer evening When I fell under your spell Did you fall under mine? When I fell under your spell Did you fall under mine? Deep in the night from an ocean of dreaming We wake to the sound of the water and stone The rocks had been falling, the tide ever turning But love is the lighthouse that’s guiding us home And the August moon said ‘you fell under my spell Like the light on the waves fell in the beginning of time’ Oh the August moon on a hot summer evening When I fell under your spell Did you fall under mine? Oh the August Moon… © Jennifer Crook 2016

September Rain Grow, grow the grain Sweet September rain Tapping on my window Strange how soon it came Time marches on Shadows in the sun Colours ever changing What is done is done Fly, fly away Shine, come what may You’ll be back tomorrow when all this falls away Traces remain I need September rain to wash away the sorrow and begin again © Jennifer Crook 2016

October Road 03:27
October Road Late start, no time for fun Lollipop lady made me run A new plan and shoes to tie There’s a rainbow up in the sky The only thing that’s keeping me from that pot of gold is down October road Dark nights and riper days Kick a doubt or two out the way A long drive and a steep climb I’m so tired but I say that I’m fine The only thing that’s keeping me from breaking every mold is down October road Gonna drop a dream or two and keep my eyes ahead There’s so much that I wanna do but I could sleep all day instead Standing on this hill I see just how far we’ve come Back there on the street We could be Anyone Bright sun please make me blind To all of the failures I’m leaving behind Those days won’t keep me warm A shredded scarf or a heart that was torn The only thing that’s keeping me from all that’s mine to hold is down, down October road keep on walking….. The only thing that’s keeping me from what the future holds is something I can almost see down October road © Jennifer Crook 2016

November 03:18
I caught my breath and then I held on tight Cried in wonder at the sight When it exploded in my heart tonight November You've got me spinning like a Catherine wheel But you know I love the way it feels To be alive again to something real November I won't be watching from behind the wall Cos anytime that sparkles fall I wanna be where I can catch them all November I never thought I'd see a night like this The crowning glory that I can’t resist You take my hands and warm them with a kiss November And then we drew 'I love you' in the air Turned around and there was nothing there Dosn't mean to say that we don't care November I won't be watching from behind the wall Cos anytime that sparkles fall I wanna be where I can catch them all November November November

Slow Down December Slow down December why do you go so fast? Let's make this a moment to remember, let's make this last There's a choir singing an old jazz tune And both of us know tomorrow always comes too soon Slow down December why the push and shove? What is the price of spending time with those you love? There's an old man crying in a rocking chair Why don't you send a human angel over there? Cos you put a string of lights around my heart Don't be the one to pull them all apart Slow down December there's a music box With an uncanny way of turning back the clocks Stoke up the fire, it'll burn so bright Slow down December we've got all night Cos you put a string of lights around my heart Don't be the one to pull them all apart Slow down December let's take our time I've got an old LP record and a bottle of wine Don't need convincing, you only had to ask Slow down December let's make this last © Jennifer Crook 2016
